The suburban community of Sea Breezes, located on a small island off the west coast of Florida, struggles to survive in the aftermath of a total Collapse of government, society, and the economy. A massive physical and cyber attack against the U.S. and the Western world by Islamic terrorists and their allies has destroyed communications, food production, and law and order.
Individual neighbors in Sea Breezes step up and lead the community in their own fields of expertise. A retired Army Lieutenant Colonel leads scavenging patrols to the outlaw-controlled badlands; a former policewoman keeps discipline within the community; a nurse establishes a medical aid station; and a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant manages the community’s security forces. Other homeowners work in areas necessary for everyone’s survival guarding the community and fighting off attacks, hunting, fishing, and gardening. But their efforts simply are not enough, and slow starvation and disease looms.
They desperately wait for help from a small Army force that landed at the airport in nearby Port Monroe, Florida, but it soon becomes evident that rescuing civilians is not part of the Army’s mission.
For Sea Breezes, getting enough food and maintaining their security against vicious gangs and roaming outlaws, are becoming increasingly difficult, as their enemies also grow increasingly desperate.
And what is the fledgling U.S. government's plan for recovery? Where will the priorities lie and who will be sacrificed?
Time is running out for everyone on the island, and only the fittest will survive. How much longer can the 200 or so men, women, and children of Sea Breezes last?
This is the conclusion of the Sea Breezes two-book set.

Author’s Note When I published "Defending Sea Breezes, a year and a half ago, I had no intention of doing a follow-on story. But I've had so many reviewers and friends ask me, "What happened next?" or "When is the next book coming out? or "I wish it were longer." I had moved on to another genre, publishing a novella, "The English Winemaker," but as the great reviews kept coming in (averaging 4.3 stars), I started thinking about how much more the survivors in Sea Breezes had to contend with. So, after a year of thinking about the tasks and trials that lay ahead for the community's residents, I decided to write the sequel- with a definitive conclusion.
Although enough background is provided so that this book can be read as a stand-alone novel, readers may want to explore the origins and details of how Islamic terrorists aided by Iran and other enemies of America, were able to bring the country to its knees. The first novel also gives insights into the main characters, and how the concept of the plan to defend the community evolved, along with their early struggles. “Defending Sea Breezes” is the predecessor to this novel, and you can find it here

Surviving In Sea Breezes A community struggles for survival after the Collapse eBook Douglas Thornblom

Surviving in Sea Breezes is a sequel to Defending Sea Breezes in which a community on Florida's gulf coast had to cope with a sudden loss of food, water, electricity and law enforcement when a terrorist attack against the United States successfully crippled government at all levels and halted the provision of goods and services throughout the country. The steps the community took to defend themselves from scavengers and outlaw gangs and to implement methods to provide necessities for life prevented immediate disaster. There were too many people in the community living on too little ground to survive long term without foraging through the surrounding area occupied by dangerous, desperate people. How they managed to stay focused on survival in the face of disease, starvation and attacks from the outside makes for an interesting story.

Surviving In Sea Breezes A community struggles for survival after the Collapse eBook Douglas Thornblom Reviews

I have read and enjoyed both of the Sea Breeze books. They are well written with well developed characters and believable plots. I appreciate that the plots are believable (i.e., no invasions by drug cartels, foreign countries, Islamic terrorists, etc.) which the protagonists have to defeat. For me the focus on realistic people solving realistic threats makes for a much more enjoyable read.
After reading Doug's first book about this survival community, I was encouraged to hear there was a sequel! The main theme of community survival, after civilization collapse, is refreshing when today's news only showcases dependency and division. The saving grace of such a collapse is that the third that survives will surely advance into the next era with basic values which more closely adhere to those which made America great in the beginning.

I like the Husky dog, the Airborne soldiers, and the lady arbiter. I missed there being a beekeeper, early on chickens laying eggs, better development of the presence of the refinery manager in the recovery. Fore and aft anchors in an open water mooring not a good idea. Better to let her swing!

Hey! It's good book for the times we are in, and the version is free. Go read it! Thanks to Doug for the effort in authoring it.
Review of ‘Surviving in Sea Breezes’ – A community struggles for survival after the Collapse.

By Douglas Thornblom West Point,’66

This excellent book is a sequel to the author’s excellent initial work, ‘Defending Sea Breezes’, a story of the Collapse of the American governmental process, system and life, as we know it now.

Our society regresses to a survival mode where the ‘law-of-the-gun’ rules, the populace is reduced to subsistence living; there is no Army, no Police Force, No functioning hospitals, no infrastructure, nothing!

This situation was brought about by an Administration that permitted uncontrolled illegal immigration, thereby allowing the infiltration of terrorists and their equipment and supplies.

The Iranians, Chinese and Russians plan on attacking selected targets, including total cyber warfare, not an invasion per se, but timed terrorist attacks, then they wait until things get back to a reasonably normal level of activity, then stage coordinated, much more devastating and over a much wider geographical area, destructive attacks, again by terrorists, which this time brings the nation to its knees.

When this happens all phases of government – federal, state and local - cease to function and almost immediately, anarchy takes over, since all branches of law enforcement, including the National Guard are more concerned with individual and family survival.

The residents of Sea Breezes essentially took over the governance, the defense, real and necessary, and administration of Sea Breezes as the situation rapidly worsened.

Food, medical supplies became depleted, attacks from outside groups increased, as did wounds and deaths of residents.

As time went on, the situation worsened, especially due to lack of food. Over a period of time the Army was able to help, but slowly and sporadically.

As in other times of disaster, it would take months, even years for the nation to return to normal, but due to American resiliency it was on the way.

The reviewer, Thomas W. Leo, CPP, is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Paints a realistic view of what might be required to survive in a post-apacoliptic world. Even with recent and old armed forces retirees, the struggle is never ending.
Provocative look at life in the aftermath of a complete breakdown of civil order. With the lawlessness now emerging from the major metropolitan areas, the fictional account of what life would be like after a major military conflagration does not seem all that far from reality.
Awesome. Doug really is a great writer. The continuing story line really made book 2
just such a great and fun reading book.
I wish Doug had more book to read.
Another home run by Doug Thornblom. This sequel to his first Sea Breezes book, also a winner, is both interesting and informative, providing potential solutions to respond to a national disaster that destroys our infrastructure. Difficult to put down once started. Looking forward to reading his next book.
