I have always enjoyed sharing with soldiers my personal experiences, tips, tricks and ideas in how to survive & thrive in the outdoors. And although I've been retired from the United States Army since January 1993, I am still doing what I like best - teaching & training soldiers. But not in a class room but through a series of books called THE RANGER DIGESTS.
Now before I decided to self-publish these books I use to forward all my tips, tricks and ideas to the Department of the Army. But the only thing I ever received back were letters saying, "...sorry, not feasible for military outdoor field conditions." Well since the Army wasn't interested in my ideas, I then decided to write a book about my tips & tricks and try to market them to the troops myself. After all, when it comes to "common sense" and "field craft ingenuity" the troops know more about this stuff than some "chair-borne" colonel or general sitting behind his nice cozy desk at the Pentagon."

This series is made by a very knowledgable former Ranger. Rather you are just entering the service or have been in for awhile, you will find something you did not know. Those who are new to the service will find a ton of useful information. While it is all enlightening, you won't use it all but can pick and choose what will help you out. Those that are infantry will probably have the most use for these books since a lot of the tips and tricks improve things that will directly improve your life in the field.I first read this in 2007. I bought the Kindle edition as I lost my books and want to support the author. The books do look like the paper ones and include the diagrams and pictures.

Old school tips to keep you a bit more comfortable than your battle buddies.
Don'tbother telling them, they just get pissed
This is an excellent read, had I read these during my Army Career, life would have been a hell of a lot easier. Full of very useful tips and tricks for any Soldier or Outdoorsman. Worth every Penny.
Very good book, should be on your must have list, I have several friends who Are Rangers, we hunt, camp and fish together, they are always reading it, so, I know what to give them for Christmas,
Kind of like MacGiver ! Vast Knowledge !
Great information, in all honesty it would be way more useful for a currently deployed soldier. Nevertheless, these booklets are a great insight into what soldiers do and learn outside of Basic Training/Boot Camp.
Great little books. But trust me, buy both sets Vols I-V AND VI-X. Once you start reading, you will be hooked. I wish these were around when I was in so long, long ago.
I was never in the military, so not everything in these applies to me. But I like camping and hiking and this series has given me some ideas on how to pack things and improvise in the field. Good stuff. I would imagine if you were in the military, particularly in an infantry or related MOS, you would really want to read these, although I suspect some thought may have to go into modifying some of the tips to the latest issue gear as these appear to be written in the early 1990s.
